Flaming Bananas with Rum and Brown Sugar

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup banana liqueur
  • 1/2 cup dark rum
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions:

  1. Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise, then cut each piece in half to create four quarters per banana.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the banana liqueur and place the banana quarters in the pan. Cook until the bananas start to soften and brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Carefully add the rum to the skillet. If cooking on a gas stove, tilt the pan slightly to ignite the rum, or use a long match to light it carefully. Let the flames die down, cooking for another minute to allow the alcohol to evaporate.
  5. Serve immediately, spooning the bananas and sauce over scoops of vanilla ice cream.
